Our trip to Nauvoo

This video was made by David's dad. A photojourney of our trip together beautifully organized and shared with us.

David: We were able to go to Carthage on our way home from Nauvoo. We went to the Old Jail and saw where Joseph and Hyrum were kept before the mob came. We took lots of pictures outside the jail including were Joseph's body fell from the upper level window. Although we were not allowed to take pictures in the martydom room, while we sat inside it an audio re-enactment was played of the events that happened the day Joseph and Hyrum died. We heard a man sing A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief, we heard gunshots that match the holes that are still in the door, and we heard the utterances of the men inside the room as the mob stormed in. It ended with the death of Joseph Smith. We observed a moment of silence before our tour guide shared his testimony with us. It was a poignant expeience and wish everyone could have a chance to experience it.

Footnote:

I remember's seeing the actual blood stains (likely a mix of John Taylor, Hyrum and Joseph Smith's blood) on the wood floor when I toured this site as a child. Those stains have now been removed.
